A MACHINE BOY’S PERSPECTIVE ON ‘PEOPLE’
Audio and visual electronic artist Machine Boy to release his first single of 2010 ‘People’ in March
Dean Cook’s alter ego Machine Boy is set to release a new single ‘People’ from his up-coming 5 track EP released through The Shotgun Charlie Label in March. Described as ‘humanist techno pop’, the single explores favoured themes of discordant human behaviour.
The tracks from the upcoming EP were created in Logic running from a Macbook with synth from Novation XStation 25 and an Alesis Micron and using text reader to provide the halting vocals.
Machine Boy is known by his fans as the ‘humanitarian machine,’ mixing up thought provoking lyrics with a background of synth sounds that leans towards the avant garde. With the creation of Machine Boy, Dean Cook makes his social comments using a robot’s eye view on humans. With the ‘People’ track he questions his assumptions - “I like the word ‘maybe’ because it gives it a questionable vibe. Who knows if I’m right in my assumptions?”
Described as a true 3600 self-sufficient artist with
multi-faceted areas of the Machine Boy franchise offering animation, art, live
gigs and merchandise, Cook finds himself welcomed into various artistic
disciplines within the animation and graffiti art world.
Championed by the late John Peel, Machine Boy now has support from Gill Mills, BBC Radio Scotland, Huw Stevens, BBC Radio 1, Tom Robinson BBC6 Music and Steve Lamacq BBC Radio 1 “In New Music We trust”. A signing with Red Robot Records in 2009 resulted in numerous remixes for other artists including; K.Katt and Shesus Sanchez, Warp Records artist Lex Loofah, Universal Records band GoJah Moon Rockah and dance act Forte.
